We have an opening for a Maintenance Worker II in facilities at the Oregon Zoo. This position performs a variety of job functions in a fun, fast paced environment. Each day may bring a variety of job assignments from building a staircase, to creating an area for waste receptacles, to painting in public spaces, to performing maintenance work in animal spaces and more. The Oregon Zoo and this position offers variety, a great work setting, and the opportunity to work independently and with a team consisting of people with extensive zoo experience and others who are new to the industry. This team works under the leadership of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Pay range for Maintenance Worker II: Entry rate: $23.14; 6 months: $24.62; 18 months: $26.16; 30 months: $27.80; 42 months: $29.55/hour. Work Week: TBD, work week may change based on the business needs of the department and the season. Shift: Shift times are subject to change based on the business needs of the department and the season. Position summary Performs multi-skilled project planning, problem solving, maintenance, construction and operations functions involving mechanic, plumbing and piping, carpentry, painting, welding or concrete trades. This position may also perform journey level multi-skilled responsibilities and specialty related functions pertaining to aquatic life support. Also supports/maintains other zoo equipment (pressure washers, vacuums, hoses, etc.) used for diving and responds to mechanical problems arising during dives. Duties may require consulting with other persons on project concepts and preparing plans and designs. May be assigned lead worker responsibilities for seasonal, temporary, contractor or other positions. May be assigned to a specialized area of operations or exhibits. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Three years progressively responsible trade experience such as required for mechanic, machinist, welding, and heavy equipment operator responsibilities with skills including design, fabrication, and assisting in project management, and
• Trade certified or equivalent, or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful completion of the essential job duties.
