AV Engineering Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:   

We are looking for an AV Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading a team of AV Engineers and Technicians across our audio visual (AV) events and operations. The AV Engineering Manager will be an inclusive leader who is motivated to lead a high-performing group focused on delivering exceptional AV solutions for our business. This individual will lead the AV technical representation for our cross-functional partners and vendors to help, design, manage, and execute.

Reporting to the Director of Experience Engineering, the AV Engineering Manager maintains the team’s roadmap from design/consultation to execution. They are responsible for hiring and developing team members, maintaining 100% systems and venue readiness and monitoring our health and safety initiatives. They will utilize metrics to measure success, customer satisfaction, make strategic decisions, and help the team scale. The AV Engineering Manager will partner with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to ensure a consistent and exceptional AV experience across all of our venues. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hire and develop high-performance team members.
  • Craft and manage team schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Organize and manage daily workflow for the team.
  • Craft and manage routine maintenance schedules to ensure 100% readiness for all AV systems and venues.
  • Estimate and prioritize projects to maximize efficiency and cost savings.
  • Design and implement audio-visual peripherals, systems and applications to meet client needs.
  • Review all hardware and software acquisition for audio-visual to ensure compatibility and effectiveness.
  • Develop tools, applications and methods for calibration and maintenance of AV systems.
  • Conduct ongoing research and development to maximize effectiveness and minimize costs for AV productions.
  • Collaborate and support departments throughout the Academy with their AV needs.
  • Facilitate correction and act as contact point for any system failure/improvement related to events AV.
  • Install/de-install and operate AV equipment.
  • Generate and maintain documentation of equipment performance history and implement system(s) to improve equipment performance.
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION/STAFF COORDINATION:

  • Select, train, manage and evaluate staff.
  • Schedule and manage adequate resources to support events, exhibitions and the Planetarium.
  • Responsible for disciplinary action if necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.

  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of multi-media presentation systems, software, and the ability to manage the entire spectrum of operations.
  • Experience with implementation of audio, video and audiovisual systems integration.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality products within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several events.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.

EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

A qualified candidate will possess a combination of the following experience and/or equivalent education:

  • 5+ years of experience in hands-on systems engineering/services, including designs, installations, and maintenance. With strong emphasis in audio visual engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in technical staff management.
  • Bachelor Degree in Visual Art or Electronics Media or equivalent training
  • Must be able to work weekends/holidays and evenings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of electronics engineering tools and test equipment.
  • Computer and presentation software literate.
  • Ability to perform well before a live audience in a fast-paced, high stress environment.
  • Ability and creativity to successfully undertake complex designs, repairs, and fabrication of electronics to enhance the museum experience.
  • Must know how to generate and read schematics/diagrams (CAD).
  • Ability to read and fully comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical drawings, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to follow supervisor’s instructions and ask for direction and assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to multitask, perform detailed work, and successfully complete assignments in a timely manner.

Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities who meet the job’s essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate, work in dark confined spaces and high areas, stand, sit, walk, climb a ladder, and work from an elevated lift.  Must be able to perform repetitive motions 50% of the time and transport up to 50 lbs.
