Facilities Director

The Oregon Zoo is seeking a leader with strong interpersonal and management skills and the ability to lead and inspire dynamic teams. Top candidates will have a proven track record of success managing resources, developing staff, honing processes and implementing systems while responding to stakeholder service requests. Knowledge and experience in integrating and improving safe work practices and sustainability in to operations is important. The Facilities Director oversees the facilities and horticulture departments. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Operations.


The facilities team manages all facility and infrastructure preventive maintenance and repair of the 64-acre zoo campus and 72-acre Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation (an off-site condor breeding facility located in rural Clackamas County); maintenance and operations of zoo train, fleet, electrical, warehouse, life support systems (LSS) for aquatic animals and exhibit environments; HVAC, building controls and supports access, camera and communications infrastructure.

The horticulture department is focused on maintaining and improving Oregon’s zoos naturalistic settings for guests and animals and providing a nutritious and enriching browse program for animals.

Additionally, the Facilities Director is responsible for planning and management of capital improvement projects, outside contractors and works collaboratively with Metro’s capital asset management team, which manages larger complex capital improvements.
This position is supported by three managers (Maintenance, LSS/Building Controls/HVAC and Horticulture), five leads and approx.16 full-time support staff.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, operations, facilities management, construction management, project management or a related field; five years of experience supervising managers and line staff; OR any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.

Preferred

Five years of experience managing a multi-unit facility or campus environment and certification in related field (CFM, FMP, and/or SMP).
