Facilities Maintenance Operations Manager

SUMMARY:  Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this person will assist the Director by providing oversight of Building and Grounds Maintenance, Rides Maintenance, Fleet and Maintenance Shop Supervision, and Waste Collection and Removal.  This person will be responsible for the processes and systems related to the daily operations of the identified Facilities Departments.  As a key leader in the Facilities Department, this person will provide guidance to staff and work in concert with all other departments to ensure completion of duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes, controls, coordinates and directs all of the daily activities of Building and Grounds Maintenance, Rides Maintenance, Fleet and Maintenance Shop Supervision, and Waste Collection and Removal.
  • Will be the primary contact to make sure that all of the aforementioned areas of assignment are appropriately staffed and functioning according to the needs of the zoo.
  • Attain working knowledge of the CMMS work order system and train necessary staff members in its use.
  • Ensure that proper safety guidelines are followed.
  • Responsible for training staff with the assistance of full time supervisors.
  • Monitors and reviews the department scheduling, workload and daily efficiencies and uses this to evaluate and review employee performance
  • Ability to evaluate performance deficiencies through the use of counseling and able to provide clear direction to employees to correct these issues.
  • Knows and understands the zoo employee handbook and adheres to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
  • Prepare budget recommendations for maintaining and updating facilities
  • Assists the director in strategic planning for the Facilities department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises Building and Grounds Maintenance, Rides Maintenance, Fleet and Maintenance Shop Supervision, and Waste Collection and Removal.
  • Direct reports include, Maintenance Supervisor, Rides Maintenance Supervisor, and Fleet Supervisor.
  • This position will assume the duties of the Director of Facilities in their absence when assigned.

  • Five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and odd hours as needed.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position will work in both an office environment and outside. Significant exposure to weather is possible.
