Facilities Operations Coordinator

The Facilities Operations Coordinator will assist the Facilities management team to coordinate site operations and maintenance activities as well as ensure proper care and upkeep of Zoo Atlanta’s buildings, grounds, habitats, pathways, and public event spaces. This position will be primarily responsible for walking public side of grounds daily to ensure quality control over all guest areas. Ensuring areas are clean, safe at pre-opening readiness times and during daily operations. This position will also provide Facilities operations support to other onsite daily operations teams such as Animal Collections, Education, Events, Admissions, Rides & Attractions and Safety Security with various activities as needed to ensure guest safety and satisfaction.

The position will assist with the Facilities work order system (Asset Essentials) including creating and implementing work orders as well as a preventative maintenance program for more regular occurring work. This position will occasionally assist with handling invoices, generating purchase orders, arranging meetings, scheduling appointments, and assisting management staff members as needed. This position will help to oversee outside contractors on all outsourced projects to ensure compliance and safety.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission, and Values statement.
  • Ensures the highest quality care and upkeep of Zoo Atlanta buildings, habitats, grounds, pathways, landscapes and event spaces from a general cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep perspective to ensure superior guest satisfaction and safety.
  • Assist the facilities management team with coordination related to contractors and scheduled work throughout zoo grounds including work during normal operating hours and after closing hours as needed.
  • Assists with event setup, operations, tear down and event venue cleanup as well as maintenance quality control. May require working evenings on occasion.
  • Assists with the Facilities work order software package as needed. Duties include, assisting with entering/closing work orders as needed, building equipment & location databases and other data entry as needed, generating reports, and coordinating work order needs & priorities for other Zoo departments.
  • Assists the Facilities team with ongoing communication with the Zoo operations and management teams as well as the senior leadership team (SLT) for important updates.
  • Assists the Facilities management team with creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure quality control over important operations and maintenance functions.
  • Assist the Facilities team managers as well as Safety and Security management team to ensure Facilities team members maintain and adhere to Zoo Atlanta safety policies and procedures. Assists with identifying potential safety issues on-site.
  • Assist Facilities teams to further develop the Zoos’ Minority, Woman Business Enterprise (MWBE) & Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Vendor database. Strives to meet or exceed the Zoo Atlanta 35% MWBE or DBE spending goals.
  • Assists the Facilities team with specialty contractor procurement, material, and supplies inventory, ordering for consumables, equipment, and tools. May include requesting cost estimates, placing orders and receiving deliveries according to zoo policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in Zoo-wide organizations and professional organizations.
  • Any other miscellaneous projects/assignment assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s Facility management team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year, therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees to work some weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in working in a team-oriented environment with a strong customer service attitude.
  • Experience working in a public zoo, aquarium, water park or equivalent facility including a general knowledge of operations related to terrestrial animals is highly desirable but not required.
  • Must have above average computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint is a must. Experience with a PDF markup tool such as Adobe or Bluebeam is a plus. Ability to learn (CMMS) Computerized Maintenance Management Software is required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible weekly & weekend schedule including working a combination of day, evening and overnight shifts if required.
  • Must have outstanding communication skills. Must be able to communicate well both orally & written. Must be able to generate operations & maintenance reports using email, spreadsheets and word documents.
  • Must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma required.
  • A four-year college degree or equivalent technical school certificate is preferred but not required.
  • Driving Requirements: Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License. (All employees that drive a Zoo vehicle/cart/operate a Ride (train, carousel, etc) must consent to a MVR verification that is acceptable per Zoo Atlanta’s auto liability insurance carrier’s guidelines to perform this function).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical ability to be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Physical ability to be able to walk for long periods of time over extended distances.
  • Physical ability to be able to life at least 50 pounds repetitively, bending lifting etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Employee is expected to work outside more than 50% of time, must be comfortable working in cold and hot weather conditions.
