Facilities Technician

The Wild Center, a natural history museum in the heart of New York State’s Adirondack region, is seeking a Facilities Technician to assist with the day to day operations and maintenance of the facility and grounds. This is a full-time 40/hr week position that reports to the Manager of Facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performing environmental (HVAC) systems monitoring and preventative maintenance;
Performing life support pumping and filtration system inspections and preventative maintenance;
Responding to facility mechanical, plumbing and basic electrical malfunctions and remedying in a timely manner;
Supervision of volunteers, as assigned;
Conducting periodic safety inspections;
Maintaining building and museum grounds security;
Maintaining facility tools in a clean and orderly manner;
Assisting curator and interpretive staff in exhibit specific operations and maintenance tasks;
Performing occasional custodial tasks (refuse and recyclable collection, floor maintenance, restroom maintenance and sanitizing, window cleaning, etc.);
Performing necessary painting, staining, floor refinishing and outdoor maintenance project work as required to maintain a quality facility appearance;
Performing seasonal grounds keeping tasks (lawn care, plant care, snow removal, etc.);
Inspection log record keeping;
Assisting with special event functions;
Willingness to work weekends and holidays (4 day work week);
Ability to participate on a team focused on producing high quality results; and
Available for emergency on-call response.

Qualifications:
– Five years of maintenance and/or construction experience.
– Capable of providing basic plumbing, mechanical and electrical repairs with minimal supervision.
– High School diploma or equivalent.
– Knowledge of proper and safe use of hand tools.
– PC literate.
– Drivers License.

Physical Demands:
– Requires working with rotating and electrical equipment (pumps, motors, etc.) and occasional work at heights of 30-35’ (ladders, powered lifts, etc.).
– Requires occasional outdoor work throughout the year and operation of commercial outdoor lawn and garden equipment.
– Must be able to lift 70 pounds.
