Facilities Technician I or II

Facilities Technician I     

Summary:

This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the facilities, building equipment, and mechanical systems at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training Requirements:

High school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of training or certification as HVAC technician, electrician, refrigeration mechanic, plumbing technician and/or other recognized trade or the equivalent.

Essential Duties:

  1. Maintain, operate all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, building management system, and building repairs.
  2. Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on all aspects of the ASLC building and its operating systems. Including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building construction.
  3. Assists with the maintenance, repair and overhaul of major plant equipment.
  4. Must be fully capable of reading technical drawings, technical specification and written repair/maintenance procedures with minimum supervision.
  5. Demonstrates an excellent working knowledge of the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment used in daily activities. Perform facility inspections, report on conditions affecting operations, and recommend actions to be taken.
  6. Review and understand equipment and methods of operation, BAS system, fire/life safety, and other systems.
  7. Works a rotating shift and/or overtime as needed.
  8. Supports the maintenance of the grounds, roof, sidewalks, and parking areas in safe and clean condition.
  9. Works with other relevant departments to ensure that exhibit galleries are always clean, and well maintained.
  10. With supervisor’s approval, assists other departments with mechanical tasks.
  11. Works with the entire operations team to ensure that all outside trafficable areas are safe and free from snow and ice. Shovels snow and dispenses ice melt and/or grit as required.
  12. Keeps proper records in accordance with ASLC policies and permits.
  13. Maintains familiarity with SDS system and hazardous communications
  14. Maintains a valid driver’s license.
  15. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
  16. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to be organized and self-motivated, exhibit flexibility to move between projects, and skills to troubleshoot situations on the spot. Must be competent with computer software applications (email, documents, spreadsheets, and similar), networking, and internet protocols.

Summary:

This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the facilities, building equipment, and mechanical systems at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Education/Training Requirements:

High school diploma or GED with at least 4 years of training and experience, including certification, as HVAC technician, electrician, refrigeration mechanic, plumbing technician and/or other recognized trade or the equivalent. A combination of education and training that fulfills the requirements of the position may be considered.

Essential Duties:

  1. Maintain, operate all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, building management system, and building repairs.

  4. Assist with the coordination of volunteer/intern activities, planning, and supervising as needed.

“A regular employee in this position who is meeting expectations for the job performance will receive a (I) $1.25 per hour or (II) $1.75 per hour wage increase automatically for the pay period starting on July 2, 2022.”
