HVAC Engineer

The HVAC Engineer employee ensures that the Zoo’s heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems are maintained and operated in a safe and efficient manner, within standards established by manufacturer and/or installer.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs heating, ventilating and air conditioning work as assigned.
  2. Operates and maintains HVAC mechanical equipment such as boilers, furnaces, water heaters, chillers and refrigeration systems, and air conditioning components.
  3. Reads, interprets, and records data from meters and gauges and adjust controls of equipment.
  4. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment on a scheduled basis including greasing, water treatment, changing filters, etc.
  5. Performs chemical tests to determine the need for water treatment in boilers, cooling towers and closed-loop water heat systems.
  6. Performs complex mechanical and electrical repairs of machines and equipment. Coordinates contractor repairs, as necessary.
  7. Procures pricing on repair and replacement parts required for the performance of duties.
  8. Analyzes problems with mechanical equipment and recommends solutions for repair or replacement.
  9. Monitors, troubleshoots the Metasys Building Automation System.
  10. Performs electrical, plumbing and other skilled trade work, as assigned.
  11. Installs HVAC and related equipment when directed.
  12. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action, and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  13. Responds to fire systems in the Zoo related to HVAC equipment and buildings, as directed.
  14. Completes other tasks as assigned or as apparent.

 Requirements:

  • Two year trade diploma
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Steam operator’s license required; 3rd class preferred.
  • CFC Universal Refrigerant License
  • Capable of maintaining and repairing boilers, furnaces, air conditioning units, chillers and cooling towers.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be a non-smoker/tobacco user.

Shift: Wednesday – Saturday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm

Days Off:   Sunday – Tuesday

Wage:  $28.52 per hour
