Irrigation Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Irrigation Specialist that has performed duties such as installation, maintenance, and improvements to an existing or aging irrigation system. This person will also work to create maps of the current and future systems for basic zoo reference and assist the horticulture team with miscellaneous tasks. Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive attitude, good communication skills and be a team player
  • Portray a helpful attitude
  • Project a professional image while in uniform and respond to radio calls in a timely manner
  • Adheres to Zoo policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of collection animals, guests, and other staff members
  • Repairs and improves broken irrigation lines.
  • Seasonally adjusts irrigation clocks based on plant demands and weather.
  • Map new and old irrigation lines, boxes, and timers for general zoo reference.
  • Map zoo utilities for general departmental reference.
  • During slower times, assist horticulture department with miscellaneous tasks.
  • Must be able to work well in a diverse team environment which may include Volunteers and other Zoo staff
  • Maintains appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with chemicals and machinery

Education and Experience

  • Two (2) years’ minimum experience designing and installing irrigation systems.
  • High school diploma or a GED
  • Texas Irrigation license – Irrigation Technician
  • Additional training in horticultural skills is preferred
  • Bilingual skills, beneficial
