Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician will support Denver Zoo’s mission by performing preventative maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to plumbing, painting, roof inspections and replacing light bulbs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work and assist in all Maintenance Department shops; including but not limited to:
    • Perform maintenance required for Zoo Attractions equipment including Train and Carousel and Zoo Fleet Vehicles.
    • Maintain records on facilities and attractions equipment and prepare daily activity reports.
    • Escort contractors behind scenes; including communicating to Zoo staff when entering and exiting an area, making sure they’re working safely, and contractors clean up before leaving.
    • Run errands for materials, etc., as needed.
    • Inspect facilities and equipment to determine construction, mechanical installation, maintenance, or repairs needed.
    • Perform plumbing repairs, filter changes, roof inspection and cleanings, changing light bulbs, assist Shop Managers with HVAC, Electrical and Carpentry tasks.
    • Perform tenant finish and remodel work such as painting on a variety of surfaces, tape and finish drywall, install wall and floor coverings, remove old finishes, prepare surfaces.
    • Move furniture and appliances with various pieces of equipment and other maintenance personnel.
    • Clean and maintain tools, equipment and work area; prepare equipment as needed
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems needing maintenance or repairs.
  • Perform submitted maintenance request, document work in Zoo Work Order Management System.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment such as backhoes, Bobcats, and forklifts.
  • Consistently provide exceptional customer service.
  • Set priorities in alignment with Inspire Awe:

  • Perform various duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities and Duties

  • Must possess good interpersonal communications skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to read and work from computers, laptops, manuals, blueprints, written and verbal instructions.

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of general non-licensed engine and/or diesel engine experience highly desirable.
  •  Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions enough to be able to establish a safe work environment.

Position Conditions

  • Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Clear driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation

Range for this position is $20.61-$24.74 (hourly)
