Performs assigned duties of maintenance, repair, and physical improvements at the Zoo including cages, fences, buildings, and equipment.  Repairs all physical plant and infrastructure at the Zoo.  Fills maintenance and supply requests.  Performs routine maintenance to and operates trucks, tractors, excavating machinery, mowers, small engines.  Assists in grounds repair and utility maintenance.  Constructs new exhibits or renovates old exhibits.  Clears roads and paths during inclement weather.  Assists grounds maintenance staff in duties.  Assists in handling animals for transport as necessary.  Assigns grounds crew duties occasionally.  Works all shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends as required.  Performs other duties as assigned and assists other employees as required.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; will consider applicants without diploma based upon experience demonstrating required abilities and skills.  Must obtain/maintain a Commercial Driver’s License.  Incumbent must be able to read, write, and possess practical math skills.  Incumbent must be able to interpret instructions and blueprints and must be knowledgeable and have experience and demonstrable ability in the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, etc.).  Though not required, those with at least one year combined experience in these trades preferred.
