The compensation for this position ranges from $50,000yr to $59,000yr and is based on experience.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SAFETY & SECURITY MANAGER AT JBZ

The Safety and Security Manager is responsible for developing, evaluating and managing the zoo’s workplace health and safety programs along with physical security of the zoo year round. Critical to the success of the Safety Manager is demonstrating a commitment to zoo’s workplace health and safety through ownership, leadership behaviors, continuous improvement, and building a connection of understanding, knowledge and trust with the zoo’s leadership, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SAFETY & SECURITY MANAGER

The ideal candidate would have experience with emergency management, emergency response, or the Incident Command System. This individual should also posses a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvements while maintaining maximum levels of safety.  They should also have the ability to interact positively and objectively with co-workers, Zoo and park patrons, volunteers, contractors and members of the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with widely divergent levels of educational attainment and social skills.

Some additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Safety/security related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the Occupational Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene field.
  • Strong working knowledge of MIOSHA regulations.
  • Experience with construction safety a plus.
