Aquatic Life Support Technician

Zoo Miami is currently seeking a motivated and exceptional individual to join our team as an Aquatic Life Support Technician. This position reports to the Animal Exhibits Supervisor and is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation or aquatic animal water filtration systems, ozone generation equipment and pump systems. We are searching for team-oriented candidates that will be approachable, engaging and passionate in working with aquatic systems and the related staff.


Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
• The proper operation, maintenance, repair and care of LSS and related equipment within their assigned area. Ensure all operations, practices, and readings are within the limits of the husbandry protocols, rules, regulations, policies and procedures that are in accordance with AZA, USDA and OSHA standards.
• Supporting general water quality and chemistry testing.
• Installing, modifying and/or upgrading life support systems.
• Perform backwashes, exhibit draining and filling as required.
• Keep Animal Science management and keeper staff informed on necessary maintenance work, routine filter maintenance, and LSS enhancement projects; accesses aquatic life support repair contracts; coordinates and oversees contracted work.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance of equipment with Animal Science and Maintenance staff.
• Assists in training keeper staff as needed to support the LSS team in the maintenance, operation, and minor repair of any LSS equipment

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage multiple and complex responsibilities at the same time; be timely and reliable in attendance and performance; and have the ability to work well with all levels of staff, volunteers, vendors and guests.

Minimum Qualifications: High School or GED. One year experience working with aquatic life support systems is required. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must possess a Driver’s License. Must be able to life 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Three years of experience working with aquatic life support systems in a zoological setting.

This is a full time position ($34,120.58) with excellent benefits with Miami-Dade County.
