Construction & Renovation Project Manager

This position directs and manages new capital construction, building addition, renovation, remodeling, and repair/replacement projects through all phases (development, pre-design, design, procurement, construction and occupancy) at the Minnesota Zoo. The position is responsible for applying comprehensive and fully-integrated professional construction project management knowledge and skills to direct and manage multiple projects simultaneously of variable scale, budget and complexity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct and coordinate the development and design of exhibit, infrastructure, construction and landscape projects
  • Provide project management, administrative direction and coordination for construction of projects
  • Maintain Zoo built plans, specification requirements, manuals and standard documents

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of commercial construction management experience AND a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural designs, plans and specifications sufficient to communicate at a professional level across the clientele
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, standards and practices sufficient to translate directives and project functions
  • Working knowledge of skilled trade practices, materials and construction methods
  • Basic drafting skills and the ability to transfer this information to detailed drawing packages, and translate it to project stakeholders
  • Skill in oral and written communication sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships, gather information on competing interests or priorities, prepare and report on recommendations, decisions and project status to stakeholders and project team members in oral and written formats
  • Skill in conflict management and negotiation principles and strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple construction projects simultaneously, with project management skill sufficient to create clear and attainable project objectives, build project requirements and estimates, coordinate the activity of others working on the project, oversee the cost, time and scope of the projects, manage project constraints, and communicate progress and end results.
  • Proficient computer software skills using email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and drafting software applications sufficient to manage project details
  • Ability to adapt to continuous organizational and program changes and work constructively and decisively under pressure
  • Current and valid Driver’s License
