A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES
As a member of the Zoo’s Maintenance Team, this person will oversees the maintenance and operation of all facilities and grounds and the utility systems at the Zoo. Provides leadership, direction and oversight to the maintenance and building and grounds teams. Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to ensure safe, secure and cost-effective facilities operations. Develops capital improvement plans, and estimates costs of projects required for future upgrades to building, systems, grounds, recreational features and fixtures, and horticultural installations. This person will partner with the Safety & Security Manager to ensure physical site safety and security of staff and visitors, both with internal and external vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work independently and with a team. This person should have working knowledge of principles, practices and theories of facility construction and maintenance for animal collections. Also have working knowledge of applied mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity, and electronics. Must have 5+ years progressive responsibility construction or facilities management experience for a zoo or similar organization. We would prefer a bachelor’s degree in construction management, or other relevant fields, or equivalent experience. Also 3 years supervisory experience is preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
