Events Project Manager

This position is ideal for a driven and team oriented individual that can manage keeping up with tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment working with many departments to meet specific needs.   Directs projects within the Zoo’s program of public-oriented special events. Administers, manages and coordinates all aspects of planning, contracting, design, execution and deinstallation of Zoo Lights, temporary exhibitions and other public events/promotional projects in accordance with best practices.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships across all internal departments (including Animal Programs, Marketing, Graphics, IT, Conservation Education and all Operations departments) and works closely with Zoo staff as clients
  • Plans, develops and prioritizes scope, schedule and budgets for Zoo Lights, Feast with the Beasts, temporary exhibitions and other public special events as assigned while working closely with the Maintenance team to ensure full preparation and coordination of upcoming jobs
  • Through events planning and management, fulfills aspects of the Zoo’s Strategic and Master Plans through a well-articulated process engaging all departmental stakeholders
  • Communicates and directs the work of designers and contractors for the design and execution of projects
  • Determines and assesses the qualifications of contractors for contracting with the Zoo.  As required, coordinates the work of multiple suppliers, vendors, labor crews and other personnel for the most effective project execution

Supervisory Duties

Manages/directs the selection, work assignments and quality of execution of projects by designers, contractors and other professionals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college or university in business, marketing, design, or management-related fields; or sufficient related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of all phases of events planning, scheduling, scoping, design, construction, move-in and operations; federal, state, and local safety practices; record keeping and report writing experience
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA requirements
  • Skill in areas of budgeting and financial administration
