Facilities Manager – Northwest Trek

POSITION INFORMATION

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Facilities Manager provides oversight and coordination for facility maintenance and safety for Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, including coordinating in-house projects and assisting with the coordination of external projects.

The primary responsibility of the Facilities Manager is to maintain the grounds, infrastructure and fleet of Northwest Trek so that they remain safe, efficient and aesthetically pleasing for our staff, animals and guests while contributing to the continued success and growth of the organization’s mission.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff through effective utilization of
the Employee Performance Evaluation Program; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, staffing needs,  termination and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate employee training programs to provide for opportunity for advancement and to acquire necessary skills
• Develops and coordinates a maintenance assessment program for exhibits and facilities throughout the Park; assures that exhibits and facilities are well maintained, functional and aesthetically pleasing to visitors. Plans, develops and prioritizes projects and weekly work plans and work orders; ensures that materials are ordered, projects are designed and planned, and funds are available
• Prepares and administers operating budgets for assigned area of responsibility
• Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and maintains programs for preventative safety as related to the activities of the department, and serves as the management representative on the facility safety committee, including coordinating emergency drills, facility safety assessments and implementation needs
• Coordinates a variety of aspects of special event preparation including setting up and taking down, storing equipment, providing janitorial staff, shuttles and proper security
• Manages all equipment and vehicles of the department including proper and authorized use. Assesses equipment needs, evaluates pricing, and makes recommendations to the Deputy Director for replacement or major repairs
• As needed, initiates and facilitates in-house project planning including identification of all resources needed to accomplish the project
• Determines and/or advises on whether to a accomplish the project internally, externally, or a combination of both
• Coordinates and communicates project facilitation internally and/or externally
• Assists in establishing and reviewing project parameters or constraints, budget, and time frame
• Assists with ensuring the best value associated with project elements
• Assists with establishing or continuing effective working relations with a variety of project stakeholders including staff, architects, engineers, contractors, local government agencies, and suppliers
• Ability to review and make adjustments to appropriate construction documents including design, specifications, and permits
• Coordinates project collaboration with MPT Planning staff as needed
• Assists with implementing and facilitating all components associated with identification and confirmation of external providers, including advertising, assessing small works roster, contractor selections
• Ensures projects are effectively integrated into existing infrastructure
• Ensures appropriate project documents are maintained including park master mapping
• Maintains professional knowledge through such means as attending conferences, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
• Attends a variety of staff and administrative meetings and represents Northwest Trek on District committees; prepares and delivers oral presentations.
• Supports implementation of divisional responsibilities within the departmental Strategic Planning directives and initiatives; establish divisional benchmarks and performance measurement objectives in accordance with the adopted comprehensive Strategic Plan for the District.
• General knowledge and understanding of water treatment systems
• General knowledge and understanding of horticultural & arboricultural practices
• Participates on the Park’s Weapons Response Team
• Performs as an Incident Commander  Other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• At least five years of increasing responsible related experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or a related field desired

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid Washington driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Demonstrated customer service skills; ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships within the organization and with outside vendors; superior interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse personalities; tactful; mature; flexible
• Strong problem solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks
• Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period
• Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, holidays and/or weekends as needed
