Facility Operations Supervisor

The Facility Operations Supervisor provides support to the Zoo Grounds Manager by supervising daily operations of assigned teams with a focus on the cleanliness of zoo grounds and facilities, and the readiness for zoo events and programs. The Facility Operations Supervisor provides work direction, assists in hiring and training of seasonal staff, and focuses on planning and coordinating facility operations responsibilities associated with Zoo events.

Essential Functions:

1) Effectively supervises assigned Seasonal Employees, including the following:

  • Interviews, selects and trains employees;
  • Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures;
  • Directs work of employees and assigns work shifts to fill schedules;
  • Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees’ productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other changes in status;
  • Handles employee complaints and disciplines seasonal employees when necessary;
  • Apportions work among different employees;
  • Monitors or implements legal compliance measures;
  • Determines the type of materials, supplies, or tools to be used by employees and controls the flow and distribution of materials and supplies; and
  • Provides for the safety of employees and the property of Cleveland Metroparks.

2) Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.

3) Supports the development of, and leads the implementation of, the seasonal employee on-boarding program for Facility Operations; develops and provides training on department policies and procedures, uniform attire, guest service, and safety.

4) Provides support and work direction to the service maintenance team in the absence of the Zoo Grounds Manager: directs and monitors work and communicates any issues to Zoo Grounds Manager.

5) Coordinates the communication to staff regarding facility operations responsibilities at Zoo events and programs: Receives and reviews activity forms, finds answers to outstanding questions and seeks clarification on activity forms as needed, ensures event information is communicated to all appropriate staff, coordinates the set up and tear down of events around zoo hours and other events, attends event and program planning meetings.

6) Travels to various facilities and locations throughout zoo grounds to supervise and direct staff and inspect zoo grounds and facilities for cleanliness and readiness for guests.

7) Completes administrative functions in support of facility operations: orders uniforms, tracks seasonal employee hours, tracks seasonal employee attendance according to the seasonal employee attendance policy and prepares attendance reports, receives, prints, and organizes activity forms in binder.

8) Acts as the manager on duty for Facility Operations on assigned weekends and holidays: acts as the point person for all issues relating to the Zoo Facility Operations Department and handles any emergency situations that occur by providing notifications and updates to appropriate personnel.

9) Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.

10) Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.

11) Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)

12) Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of two years of zoo, park, or related supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Must be a non-smoker/tobacco user.

Wage:  $18.71 – $22.71 per hour

 

Works Schedule: Varies with possible weekdays, weekends, holiday and evenings.
