General Maintenance 3 (Mechanic)

The General Maintenance 3 employee, under direction of the Zoo Manager of Buildings & Facilities, performs skilled tasks which require specialized training, considerable experience, and proven abilities. This includes, but is not limited to, skilled or semi-skilled tasks and vehicle preventative maintenance so as to properly maintain the fleet of Zoo equipment and vehicles, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, etc., as they relate to industrial building maintenance and construction.

Essential Functions:

  1. Analyzes major and minor problems in vehicles. Evaluates condition of vehicle and severity of problems.  Repairs or sends out for repairs.
  2. Assists in training program for tram and train drivers.
  3. Keeps a file of all work orders on vehicles.
  4. Orders all parts as needed for repairs.
  5. Repairs and maintains Outback Train so as to keep in safe condition.
  6. Monitors daily fuel usage and keep appropriate daily records. Submit monthly report and check on total shortages or overages.  Order fuel when needed.
  7. Maintain and repair Zoo buses.
  8. Provides work direction to seasonal garage employees, as assigned.
  9. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action, and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  10. Keeps supervisor informed of key issues.
  11. Performs other tasks as assigned or apparent.

Equipment Used (Not limited to):

  • Special skilled trade tools
  • All Park District maintenance equipment
  • Trucks, tractors and construction equipment
  • Personal computer.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
  • Master tradesman credentials or equivalent. ASE Certified.
  • Proven ability in technical capacity.
  • Initiative, sense of responsibility and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Basic computer skills.

Wage:  $32.80 per hour

Work Schedule: Sunday – Thursday; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
