Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for performing various semi-skilled construction work in the repair and maintenance of the Zoo’s infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be skilled with performing routine and general repair work throughout a fast-paced facility. Work areas include, but not limited to, outdoor structures, animal enclosures, and interior facilities. Work objectives are to maintain physical integrity of zoo structures and facilities. Candidate must have a valid Texas Driver’s license or be able to maintain one within 60-day period.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs light construction duties such as carpentry, painting, and general labor in support of facilities department activities.
• Fabricates/constructs various wood/metal/plastic related items, e.g., shelves, racks, boxes, crates, and framing components using bolts, adhesives, nails and/or screws.
• Assists with inspections and preventative maintenance of building roofs and gutter systems.
• Uses hand/power tools and mechanical equipment to perform assigned tasks.
• Cleans and organize work stations and shop areas.
• Implements preventative maintenance measures
• Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.
• Maintains inventory of repair equipment and supplies


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant work experience with general maintenance as a primary function
• Experience working independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Experience with prioritizing tasks and following specified procedures
Work Environment
▪ Outdoor exposed to changing weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, etc)
Work Hours
▪ Variable schedule with rotating shifts, weekends and holidays are required as on call shifts, projects, and special events determine.
