Maintenance Technician

Position:                      Maintenance Technician

Department:               Facilities

Reports To:                Facilities Director

Basic Function:           Performs, but not limited to the general maintenance and upkeep of the zoo

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance duties including but not limited to electrical repairs and modification, plumbing repair and modification, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, masonry repair and modification, automotive and equipment repair, welding, minor air conditioning repair, tool and equipment repair, lock repair and maintenance.
  • Operate tractors, loaders and other heavy equipment
  • Operate power tools and related safety equipment.
  • Follow preventative maintenance programs
  • Report to supervisor the need for materials and supplies to complete given assignments.
  • Help set-up and break down at special event functions and after hours parties.
  • Work with outside contractors and/or volunteer crews as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of four years of construction and/or maintenance of animal facilities experience involving the major building trades.
  • Operate power tools and related safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of complex plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry repairs/maintenance.
  • Knowledge of pumps and motors repair..
  • Basic computer skills necessary for daily operations.
  • Must be a high school graduate, or have a GED. College, vocational or technical school studies desirable.
