Senior Director of Campus Management

This position advances Denver Zoo’s mission and goals for the Campus Management department.  This role is responsible for envisioning, developing and executing the strategic framework for facilities maintenance, grounds, custodial, environmental health and safety, sustainability, business services, and procurement programs that make up the Campus Management Department.  The Senior Director of Campus Management will develop and manage a complex departmental budget with multiple revenue streams, and oversee the development, generation, and dissemination of critical facilities management reports, including key performance indicators and data on physical environment process and procedures. The senior director will oversee the zoo’s sustainability plan and goals in collaboration with the zoo’s Global Conservation Alliance team and provides strategic leadership across the zoo by partnering with key stakeholders to achieve the zoo’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provide strong, strategic leadership and vision to department directors overseeing Facilities Maintenance, Grounds & Environmental Services (Custodial), Safety and Sustainability, Business/Procurement Services teams.  Motivates, models, encourages and creates a collaborative learning environment. Develops and champions programs that encourage employee growth and accountability.
  • Work closely with the COO to develop priorities, short term and long-term goals that align with mission and vision of zoo. Supporting the execution of project plans, delegating responsibilities to key staff, and monitoring staff for accountability and completion of deliverables.
  • Develop and mentor future leaders within the team; establish performance expectations, oversee achievement of goals and quality of results.
  • Champion Campus Management Team efforts to support the refinement and enhancement of the functions of the department, placing an emphasis on consistency, teamwork, departmental collaboration, proactive planning, effective budgeting and enhanced productivity, including the establishment of procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow both within and across departments for maximum clarity, efficiency and success.
  • Responsible for development and oversight of the annual budget for the Campus Management Teams. Monitors financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed. Provides budget report analysis and recommendations on a regular basis.
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for management and incorporation of sustainability programs into the culture and daily operations of Denver Zoo by collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation, compliance and continuous improvement of the zoo’s SMS policies, programs and requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory policy making related to campus management essential functions, and develop strategies for Denver Zoo to respond to any adverse conditions that would impact our operations.
  • Communicate performance of campus management programs with internal and key external stakeholders.
  • Partner with all members of the zoo’s leadership team to ensure the mission of Denver Zoo is achieved; actively communicates and solicits feedback from members of the leadership team to help refine and enhance the work of the Campus Management Team.
  • Champion the development and execution of innovative, creative and effective funding opportunities to lead Denver Zoo into the future; supporting the implementation of campus management project work.
  • Actively contribute to and represents Denver Zoo in zoo and aquarium organizations, as well as with appropriate professional organizations (AZA, AZFA, etc.), peer institutions, cultural, civic, governmental and other industry/trade organizations.

  • Provide excellent leadership to all Denver Zoo employees.
  • High level of computer skills in MS Office Suite
  • Perform various duties as assigned.

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years of relevant experience, including at minimum 5 years in management
  • Experience in developing organizational culture, with proven track record of building a collaborative and effective team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in process improvement
  • Experience developing and mentoring future leaders within the area/multiple functions, possibly through subordinate managers; establishes performance standards, achievement of goals and quality of results
  • Experience in management, budget planning, and operational forecasts; ability to monitor budgets and identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement and containing costs and ensuring compliance with policies.

Position Conditions

Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.

Compensation

Range for this position is $7,588-$9,675 monthly.
