General Maintenance Worker

Perform maintenance and repair of buildings, machinery and electrical and mechanical equipment; coordinate maintenance activities, including personnel, materials and equipment to complete assigned maintenance/site projects and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in construction technology; and

Four (4) years of general construction or facility maintenance experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Operations, services and activities of a general maintenance program
  • Methods and techniques of general construction including both rough and finish carpentry
  • Maintenance and repair methods and techniques related to a wide range of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems including drinking water systems and associated equipment
  • Maintenance procedures related to general construction and maintenance tool and equipment
  • Operational characteristics of a wide variety of general maintenance equipment and tools
  • ARC and acetylene welding methods and techniques
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair of assigned facilities and equipment
  • Interpret, explain and enforce department policies and procedures
  • Operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Perform both rough and finished carpentry work
  • Perform both gas and electric welding
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
