Groundskeeper – Part Time

SUMMARY/ OBJECTIVE:

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining an aesthetically-pleasing and functional outdoor space at the Rockwell facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains and improves grounds, including lawns, gardens, trees, shrubbery, and other outdoor spaces
  • Performs routine landscaping duties including, but not limited to, weeding, mowing, edging, pruning, watering and fertilizing
  • Operates, maintains and repairs grounds keeping equipment such as riding lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and chain saws.
  • Implements seasonal care such as planting in the spring, leaf removal in the fall, snow removal in the winter
  • Performs minor repairs on outdoor structures such as fences, gates, and walkways
  • Ensures sidewalks and pathways are clear of debris for safe passage
  • Collaborates and works with other staff members on larger projects
  • Adheres to National Aviary protocols and procedures
  • Adheres to and models Aviary safety policies

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable knowledge and hands on experience working with outdoor maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain hand and power equipment.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year landscaping experience or similar

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse History Certification
  • Satisfactory FBI Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass Department of Motor Vehicles check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly positions self to complete grounds keeping tasks. The employee frequently moves/transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across the facility. The employee occasionally ascends and descends ladders. The employee occasionally operates hand and power equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environments will primarily include climate-controlled office spaces, public areas where the noise level may be loud, and outdoors where work may need to be done in inclement weather conditions, including extremes of temperature and precipitation.

POSITION TYPE/ EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a part-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
