Vehicles and Fleet Maintenance Technician
Principal Functions:

Position Summary:
A key part of a dynamic and motivated Maintenance Team. Oversees all aspects of the maintenance of the zoo’s fleet of vehicles, utility carts, and equipment including preventative and routine maintenance, in maintenance, in house repairs, coordination of offsite repairs, record keeping, budget compliance and ensuring that the zoo’s fleet is “zoo crisp” and ready for our staff and guests every day by performing the following core functions:
- Maintain the Zoo fleet while working within the Vehicle and Equipment budget for the month and for the year.
- Troubleshoot on-calls regarding any vehicle, cart, or piece of equipment.
- Work with vendors and contractors to acquire parts and services.
- Perform required preventative maintenance on the fleet, following routine schedules and manufacturer recommended maintenance intervals.
- Perform regular safety inspections of the Zoo fleet including but not limited to: vehicle brakes and fluids, golf cart brakes and wheel hubs, and equipment hydraulic levels.
- Use sound judgment to determine when to remove a vehicle or piece of equipment from service if there are safety concerns.
- Routinely Inspect the fleet for worn parts, tires, or damages and repair as needed.
- Work with each department in the zoo to understand their needs regarding the vehicles or equipment they utilize.
- Use creative thinking to improve efficiency of fleet maintenance.
- Maintain all records of preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, and repairs
Key attributes that will lead to success:
- Has significant vehicle and/or equipment repair and maintenance experience
- Enjoys working independently on tasks as well as being on a team of other technicians
- Has the right combination of education and experience
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of maintenance practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in vehicle, equipment, and fleet maintenance.
- High attention to detail
- Experience in keeping good maintenance records
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s fleet currently consists of:
Our fleet consists of 25 golf carts, 12 vehicles, 2 mini-trucks, 2 large Bobcat skid steer loaders, 3 small skid steer loaders, one 45 ft. articulating boom lift, and 3 John Deere Gators. Other equipment includes but is not limited to 2 large stand-by generators, about 11 small portable generators, 2 tow-behind welders, a log splitter, a hay shredder and a vehicle lift used for fleet maintenance work.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION This Position is a fully benefited position including group medical, dental, vision life, and disability insurance; paid holiday, vacation & sick time; retirement plan, a zoo membership; and eligibility for the bonus program. Compensation for this position will be based on education, certifications, licenses, qualifications, and experience as outlined herein. Shift will be 8-5 Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday. May be required to work a non-traditional work-week occasionally to support projects, special events, etc.
Salary
$19.32-$24.52
